The following is a current scene from our living room window:

March 29 snow

It’s either time to jump ship or just go buy a snowmobile.

This is what it looked like when we were driving to the grocery to get eggs today, the first day of spring:

Alli’s benefit photo

This is not my photo, btw. It was taken for use in Alli’s school’s annual benefit (and they successfully made $45 by selling it to us… 🙂 )

Park fun

March 19th, 2008 § 0

While I dashed off to lend assistance and consolation to my friend whose mother passed away unexpectedly in Peoria, Andrew, Alli and visiting cousin Jill were able to lift my spirits a bit upon return with documentation of their silliness in the park while I was away:

Cat: 50, Julie and Printer: 0

Can somebody please tell this psychotic kitten creature of ours that the printer is not a terrorist intruder?

Roo vs. Printer

Working from home presents a rather large challenge when every time the fax/printer makes a teeny tiny noise or dares to feed a sheet of paper through, Roo mounts a full-on offensive.  I have actual scars from intervening in the battle, as does the printer.

P.S. Alli, one more reason why, upon bringing your donations to the shelter this weekend, we rejected your “puppy dog face” pleas to bring your newfound friend “Abe” home.  I’m up to my ears in feline management.

First Sleepover

March 8th, 2008 § 2

One of the few advantages of condo living… trial sleepovers with the downstairs neighbor.  Insanely freaking cute, btw.

I felt so accomplished getting them both to bed by 9:30 in their respective bunks… no idea I’d be in for the 5am up, giggling and “starving”.  Can someone please tell my child how sleepovers are supposed to work?

Alli’s Song

Bah humbug.

I’m not usually a winter whiner. I’m not a person who enjoys being hot, and haven’t ever really minded bundling up and trekking out in our beloved 4wd wagon. I thought that getting through changing a flat tire (thanks likely to our streets which are currently more pothole than pavement) in subzero temperatures meant that I had survived the worst of this particularly cold, snowy and grey (even for Chicago) season, but alas this winter has once again kicked my butt — literally, this time, via a fall on the ice that busted my tailbone.

So I am continuing to wince through the pain, learn how to sit in all kinds of new-fangled ways, and avoid going outside whenever not absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, Alli, who still often views things in black and white, is actually visibly angry that the snow didn’t make way for spring when the calendar flipped to March. “But, Mommy, I don’t have to wear snowpants anymore. It’s MARCH now!”

And today’s forecast:

March 4, 2008

Rest of Today…Considerable cloudiness. A 30 percent chance of light snow late in the afternoon. Blustery. Highs in the lower 30s. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the late morning and early afternoon.

Tonight…Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of snow in the evening…then partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 20s. North winds 10 to 20 mph.

Freakin’ Jack Frost, getting his jollies at our expense.

Where am I?
